Romper: Madewell | Shoes: Vans | Sunglasses: Celine | Handbag: old, Similar

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been on a little hiatus. You know how it is, life takes over and it’s  hard to fit in time for your favorite hobbies. A crazy work schedule has kept me busy but now that summer is here I have lots of fun stuff planned. My struggle is always trying to find my balance between work and blogging fun. I thought a perfect time to bring my blog up to date was July 4th. I’d been putting off posting and then I had a few people ask when I was posting again. Oh, the pressure! So I finally stopped procrastinating and I dressed up Rockie (which he absolutely dislikes) and found some time with my hubby “the  photographer”  to snap some quick pics.

How perfect is this Madewell denim romper for a BBQ and 4th of July festivities . I decided to pair it with my leopard Vans for a casual walk with Rockie. To stick with the ‘Merica theme I’m carrying my favorite Red Marc Jacobs tote  and you can’t forget the mini flags.  To elevate this look  for date night I would wear wedges and a crossbody handbag and some color popping jewelry. I feel you can mix many different colors with denim but I love Red and denim.

Now Rockie is sporting a red, white and blue scarf from the Target $1 bins. You know the area that you can’t pass by when you first walk in. When you have a need for nothing in the area but you have to purchase a ridiculous amount $1 items. Or is that just me?

What is your go to 4th of July outfit?

I’m wishing everyone a Happy & Safe 4th of July!

You don’t have to have all new clothing to be on trend and look great. Shopping in your own closet can be fun and if you’re like me you find stuff you totally forgot you had. (Happens to me all the time) I tend to buy one new piece to mix with my current old items. FACT: If you take great care of your clothing and accessories they will last and hold up over time. For example, I rarely put anything in the dryer even if it’s in the care instructions to do so. I hang dry EVERYTHING after hand washing or washing in cold water. Now let’s talk about my outfit. The new item is the long white belted vest from Zara. What I love about it is it takes you right into spring and you can pair it over a dress or cute shorts. I went a little darker with this outfit and was really working the zippers. This is an “outfit of the night” that I would wear it out to dinner with the hubby or out to drinks with my girls. My shoes and striped tank are at least 5+ years old, found them in my closet (shocking I know). My girlfriend and I bought these skinny black pants at Zara on the same  shopping trip, can you say Twinning?  The next day I received a text from her saying how amazing and addicted to these pants she is. I have to agree, these are my go to skinnies and they were under $50. I love a good budget find, especially when they are stylish and comfy! So the lesson is, fashion doesn’t need to be new and it doesn’t have to be expensive to look good. I suggest doing some spring cleaning in your own closet and find what treasures are in there. Build an outfit from your closet!

You know I love a good statement skirt and even more than statement skirts I love pattern mixing. My big peach blossom skirt (under $45) is such a big bold print that I paired it with a button up boyfriend shirt that has a smaller print of skinny stripes and navy polka dots. I cuffed and pushed up the sleeves instead of a clean roll, making it look effortless. A great button up shirt is a must for your closet, lightweight and a simple print makes it fun and different. I’m a pop the collar type of girl, whenever I put on a button up shirt it’s automatic to pop it up. My nude heels were a great find from DSW, super budget friendly and comfortable. On my lips I used my favorite Nars satin lip pencil in the shade YU . I’m obsessed with Nars lip pencils, they stay on for hours, are moisturizing and the colors are rich and bright.

Spring is here and I’m loving the sunny 70 degree California weather, it’s the perfect weather for a white eyelet dress with a pop of colorful accessories. I saw this dress at Zara for under $50 and knew I had to have it to wear on Easter. It’s perfect for Easter brunch and I’ll show in “Part 2” blog post how to pair it with completely different accessories to make it a darker edgier look. Check back on Monday for that post. One dress two ways makes dressing up so fun with all my different accessories. I may or may not have an addiction to accessories. When I recently purchased my Steve Madden yellow chunky heels I knew I would wear them with EVERYTHING! They also come in 5 other colors but the yellow was calling my name. My big statement necklace is from Baublebar , it’s a little Mr. T (who I love) but the bigger the better, right?!  My neon pink Kate Spade handbag was a great find from my local consignment shop, it doesn’t have to be brand new to be amazing. I have a collection of sunhats that I love to throw on to complete a look but  most importantly protect my face from the sun. When I was little I always had to have my Easter bonnet and why should that have to change now? No matter how old I’ve been I’ve always wanted to accessorize. Accessories can easily elevate your outfit and helps add your own style to a simple dress, like I did here. What does your Easter day wardrobe look like?

Anyone that knows me knows that I have an obsession with denim shirts. I have a section in my closet with several shirts all denim but different fits, weights and light to dark in color. I feel a denim shirt goes with everything,  and I mean everything! If you ask any of my coworkers they’ll  say I wear a denim shirt at least once a week, okay maybe twice. The thing with denim shirts is you can dress it up and dress it down. I chose to dress it up here with a striped statement skirt and patent leather red pumps. MEOW! The red pumps are super sexy and add a pop of color to any outfit, they’re my go to date night shoes. I love this outfit because you can wear to work and right out to happy hour after. If you don’t feel comfortable with bright red pumps at work then I would change the shoe to a black wedge or simple black pump. But don’t you think it’s fun to step out of you comfort zone?
